A section of India cricket team fans claimed on Sunday, September 11 that they were denied entry to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 final between Sri Lanka and Pakistan for wearing “India jerseys”. In a video that is being shared widely on social media, an Indian fan alleged that supporters wearing the India Blue were being sent back.
The Dubai International Stadium was packed to the rafters for Sunday’s Asia Cup 2022 final as it had a good presence of both Sri Lanka and Pakistan supporters.
Popular supporters group of Team India, ‘The Bharat Army’ shared the video of one of its members alleging that the “local officials and police” in Dubai denied entry to them to watch the finale between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
India headed to Asia Cup 2022 as favourites but were they were knocked out of the race for the final with Sri Lanka and Pakistan making it to the final Sunday from the Super 4 stage.
“As an Indian fan, we were not allowed to enter the stadium, which is kind of weird. If there is any directive… we were literally asked to leave because we wearing Indian jerseys. I understand it if there was a directive to allow only Sri Lanka and Pakistan fans. But there is a way to do this,” a fan claimed in the Bharat Army video.
Another fan said: “We were pushed by the cops. We came here to watch the cricket, have fun. But this is wrong, very wrong.”
“If Indians had to go inside the stadium, we’re told to wear either Sri Lanka or Pakistan jerseys,” another fan said.
“That’s so stupid, why would me, being an Indian fan, wear a Pakistan or Sri Lanka jersey? It doesn’t make any sense.”
The @icc & @ACCMedia1 we urge you to investigate as our members travelled all they way from India to watch the #AsiaCup2022 and have been told they can’t enter the stadium by local officials and the police! Absolutely shocking treatment!#BharatArmy #PAKvSL

The Bharat Army urged the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to investigate the claims
“The @icc & @ACCMedia1 we urge you to investigate as our members travelled all they way from India to watch the #AsiaCup2022 and have been told they can’t enter the stadium by local officials and the police! Absolutely shocking treatment!” the fan group said in a tweet.
India were knocked out in the Super 4 stage after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in their first two Super 4 matches. India rode on a Virat Kohli century in their final match against Afghanistan but it was not enough to help them make the final.
In the big final, Sri Lanka posted 170 after recovering from 57 for 5 in 20 overs. Bhanuka Rajapsaka’s 45-ball 71 not out helped Sri Lanka come up with a stunning fightback after pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah rattled the top order of the islanders.
