New Delhi:

There are some things that make for good television – or in this case, OTT content – and a con artist and his escapades is definitely one of them. The adventure of the charming con artist is a genre on its own, with loyal fans across languages and countries. Latest on the list of twisted tales of deceit that usually come with oodles of suave and a dash of “what just happened” is The Tinder Swindler. The Netflix show is exactly what its title suggests – the story of a man who swindles one woman after another across countries on the dating app, Tinder.

The documentary is told through the eyes of three women who were swindled by Israeli con man Simon Leviev. Simon posed as the billionaire son of the Russian-Israeli diamond mogul Lev Leviev.

If The Tinder Swindler left you impressed, we recommend you take a look at these five titles that fall in the same genre.

  1. Inventing Anna – Netflix

If there is one show that is making as much noise as The Tinder Swindler, it is another Netflix title, Inventing Anna. The drama series created and produced by Shonda Rhimes follows the true story of Anna Delvey aka Anna Sorokin, the fake heiress who robbed New York elites of millions of dollars. Julia Garner plays the Russian-German convicted fraudster in this exciting miniseries.

  1. The Puppet Master – Netflix

Another con man story that proves that truth is stranger than fiction is The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman. The three-part Netflix series revolves around Robert Freegard, one of the world’s most notorious con artists who left destroyed families and empty bank balances in his wake.

  1. Fyre– Netflix

This 2019 documentary is based on the Fyre Festival of 2017. While the run-up to what was going to be a grand music event promised luxury, glamour and fun, the reality was far from pleasant.

  1. Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal – Netflix

Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal is an in-depth look at exactly what the name suggests – a mammoth college admissions scandal involving big names from America’s showbiz world. The rich families in the US will do just about anything to get their wards into top universities, even if it means creating a dossier of lies about their children’s achievements, cheating in exams and even fudging their scores. It is this very same scandal that fetched actress Lori Loughlin a two-month prison sentence.

  1. The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley – Disney+ Hotstar

This documentary is based on the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos. The journey of the Silicon Valley entrepreneur, who was termed the world’s youngest billionaire, hinges on the lies she weaved around her multi-billion-dollar company that was completely dissolved.
